NEW YORK – A federal appeals court Tuesday struck down a state law requiring airlines to give food, water, clean toilets and fresh air to passengers stuck in delayed planes, saying the measure was well-intentioned but stepped on federal authority.

The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said New York’s law — the first of its kind in the country — interferes with federal law governing the price, route or service of an air carrier.

should i first book me and my fiance’s flight/hotel and then call continental to add my son as a passenger?

Me and my fiance are going to dominican republic for our honeymoon but we need to take 3 year old son (we have family in Dominican Republic so we will be able to spend sometime alone) so it will be half honeymoon half family vacation.
Anyway we are going to be booking our trip through travelocity but I’ve notice that when I add my son as a child they are charging the same amount for all 3 of us. I’m not sure if there is a discount for a 3 year old traveling from the U.S to Dominican Republic but I do now that the hotel we are staying in charges $5.00 a day for children. So what a friend of mine told me to do is to book our (fiance and I) vacation and then call continental airlines add my son to the reservation (which may actually be cheaper) and then pay for my son when i get to the hotel. Will this work? thanks in advance

Can I make a reservation for a child as an adult passenger ?

the thing is, I was trying to make a reservation for the kid ( 11 years old ) and her sister ( 15 ) together but when I tried to do it together, american airlines was charging me $ 269 to go and $ 229 to come back for each.
but when i did it separately it was $229 to go and $199 to come back. that’s a $ 140 savings, so since american airlines wouldn’t let me make the reservation for the kid alone, I said that she was an adult. is there’s gonna be a problem when they get to the airport ?

If passenger on your reservation (Spirit Air)doesn’t show up, how do you keep the extra seat from their ticket?

There are 3 of us travelling on an airline ticket that I paid for with Spiritair. One person might not be able to make it and the cancellation fees would cost as much as the airline ticket so we aren’t going to bother cancelling the ticket (she just won’t show up – although we could still check her in online 24 hrs before). How do we keep that seat empty (for extra room since we paid for it)?? If she doesn’t show up, can they still give it to someone else and will they cancel the return portion of her ticket automatically as she is a “no show” (but technically I should be able to keep that seat empty there and back because I paid for it). How do I do that?
I just called the airline and told them that I PAID for the seats and if a person doesn’t show up, I want the extra seat kept empty for more room. They told me that I paid for it and even if they don’t show up, let them know at the airport you want the extra seat empty because you paid for it and it won’t be a problem. Is this incorrect information?? Can they release the seat even if I have paid for it (didn’t cancel the ticket and spent the money on it) and want it kept empty if the passenger whose name is on it doesn’t show up?
What if I want the seat empty on the way there and back? If I didn’t cancel and made it clear that I paid for it and wanted the extra room, can they give it away anyways? The airline told me on the phone that I would be able to keep it empty because I paid for it if I told them at the airport….is this incorrect? Am I going to have problems doing this?
Thanks for the responses. No, transferring the name on the ticket is not an option – I was just hoping they would allow me to keep it in the customers name but leave the seat empty since I paid for it. Thanks again!!

Congress should also form an air passenger assn to counter the powerful airline industry lobby. Do you agree?

Ralph Nader;
In some areas it regulates, the aviation agency is not even living up to the safety requirements in its rule books. For example, it is allowing safety systems in some new airliner designs to be evaluated by analysis based on past tests, mathematical models and computer simulations, rather than requiring actual testing. The agency waived full-scale emergency evacuation tests for the Boeing 777-300, for example, and certified the plane in 1998 to carry 550 occupants even though actual tests had been used only for a smaller model model (the Boeing 777-200) that carried 419 people.

Passenger wanting to go from Europe to Canada by sea?

I will be moving from Europe to Quebec next year at some point and would like to travel by sea. I can’t find any passenger ferries that go to Canada from Europe, that are not cruise ships (not what i’m looking for), but have heard that some freight ships take on passengers. Does anyone have any information on this way of transatlantic travel? It would be very much appreciated.Thanks!
