Do you have to go through customs and immigration in Mexico if it is not your final destination country?

I am traveling to Peru in March from the United States and we are changing flights in MEX (Mexico City), but our final destination is Lima, Peru. I am wondering if we will have to retrieve our luggage and go through customs and immigration when we land in MEX? When I went to Mexico last summer I barely had enough time to get to my next flight because we had to go through customs and immigration and then through security again (but we were switching to a Domestic flight). But I was not sure this would be the case if we remained in the international terminal (if one exists). Here are some details if they will help with the answer…
Leaving LAX on AeroMexico, layover in Mexico City (4h.), continue on to LIM (Lima, Peru) on AeroMexico. Pretty much the same set up on the return flight to US. But the layovers are different, 3h. layover on return in MEX(same airlines and airports though).

Traveling to Mexico without a passport possible? Help please!?

So I was supposed to get my passport today, according to the Passport Agency, but I didn’t get it. I tried calling the Agency but they don’t work on weekends.

So I tried calling the airline to ask if I could travel to Mexico without a passport, but with a birth certificate and photo I.D., but the guy with the foreign accent couldn’t answer my question and just told me to check online. I asked if he could refer me to somewhere where they could have the information, he just said he didn’t know.

I have a multiple re-entry to USA.I am carrying a B2 Visa, can I re-entry USA by going to Mexico n return?

I carry a Philippine passport. What papers should I submit to the Mexican Embassy. I am planning to stay there only for three days and planning to return to USA for another six-months stay. I am already married to American Citizen but we don’t have yet all the necessary papers to submit toINS and I don’t want to overstay my six-months visa. My B2 six months visa will be expiring on January that’s why I am planning to exit USA and after my return we will complete all necessary requirements. It is possible to go to Mexico and return in USA? What papers do I have submit to get a visitor’s visa to Mexico? What travel agency is the best to get a cheap airline ticket, two way. My husband will accompany me and we don’t know where we will stay there for three days. Is there a three-day package tour? How much money should we bring for our trip to Mexico? How many hours from Houston, Texas to Mexico International Airport? What’s the best place to stay there without spending big money?

Do I need a passport card or book to travel to Mexico by sea in October 2008?

Has anyone traveled on a cruise to the Western Caribbean with just a birth certificate and driver’s license lately? I think people can still do this until June 2009. Is this true?

From http://travel.state.gov/travel/cbpmc/cbpmc_2223.html
LAND AND SEA TRAVEL
The following summarizes information available on the Department of Homeland Security’s website.

CURRENTLY:
U.S. citizens need to present either (a) a passport, passport card (available in spring 2008), or WHTI-compliant document; or (b) a government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license, along with proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate.
LATER:
On June 1, 2009, the U.S. government will implement the full requirements of the land and sea phase of WHTI. The proposed rules require most U.S. citizens entering the United States at sea or land ports of entry to have a passport, passport card, or WHTI-compliant document.

Visa requirements for Caribbean cruise to Mexico?

I know this question has been asked on this forum, but I wasn’t able to get any confirmation of what the actual visa requirements were for foreign nationals (from India & UK) visiting the US and wanting to take a cruise to Mexico (Cozumel and Progresso). Does anybody have any additional information on this?
I checked with the cruise line (Carnival) as some people suggested, and they just said that I would have to check with the Mexican consulates in UK and India. The consulate in UK said that you would “probably” not need a visa, but to be on the safe side, you should obtain a double-entry visa. The consulate in India said that it does not issue visas for cruises to Mexico, and that the necessary travel documents could be obtained at the port (in Mexico, I’m guessing).
So, although I have received answers from various sources, I haven’t received a definite answer from anybody.
Could somebody who has actually been in this situation (or similar) tell me if they needed visas? Thanks
I was just told by the consulates in Florida and Texas that there are no Mexican visa requirements for cruises. This applies to all nationalities.

Is a passport required when traveling to Mexico and Western Carribean by Sea?

I have heard so many different answers to this from friends!!!! I understand that if by air, I will need one as on Jan.2007. If By SEA, (cruise), I will not need one until Jan. 2008. I am traveling in April 2007 so I am under the impression that I will not need one. Can anyone out there clarify this for me???????? Thanks so much!!
