(Aug. 14) – Dozens of outraged airplane passengers are threatening to sue Continental Airlines, claiming they were left stranded on a plane and grounded for hours in hellish conditions.

Because of bad weather, Continental’s July 19 Flight 1669 from Caracas, Venezuela, to Newark, N.J., was diverted to Baltimore-Washington International Airport, where it landed at 1:50 p.m. Passengers said after sitting on the grounded plane for hours, they began protesting by banging on overhead compartments, clapping their hands and even signing a petition asking to be let off.

Has anyone ever flown a dog from China – North America????

Besides all the paperwork, shots ect… how was the airline staff???

Chinese aren’t excatley known for being animal lovers (especially NOT large dogs) so I am a bit worried my dog will be treated poorly.

Is it possible for the airline to arrange someone that speaks English to meet with you at the airport and step you through everything?

Does someone sit with your dog in the cargo area??

What from your experience is the best airline to use for travelling pets? Remember this is an international flight.. possibly 10-12 hours long… so domestic flight experience isn’t really what I’m looking for.

Has anyone ever snuck their cat/small dog on a plane without paying the airline fees?

I’ve traveled numerous times on planes with my cat in an approved carrier in the cabin with me. He does well flying and I get to spend the holidays with him. Each time, I paid for a medical exam for him by my vet so that I’d have the medical certificate if they asked (they never did) and I paid the airline fees. Two years ago, the first time I flew, it cost $50 each way for his “reservation” and $30 for the exam, for a total of $130. The next time, it cost $75 each way and $30 for the exam, for a total of $180. Since I wanted to take him home for Christmas this year, I checked the airline pet fees and nearly fell out of my chair! Delta/NWA is now charging $150 each way for a pet and United is charging $175. The cheapest, USAir, is still charging $100 each way, but I don’t fly them because they’re almost never the cheapest airline for me. I recently bought a ticket on Delta for my flight home for Christmas and payed $250 for a roundtrip, but my cat’s “reservation” would cost $300, more than my ticket! If I was flying United, it would cost $350!

With rising gas prices, will trains ever be a realistic alternative to flying when traveling within the USA?

Gas prices keep rising and now airlines are making customers pay to check their bags. Why do you think it is that in the USA we have yet to switch or at least revive our rail-system? Japan ad Europe have high speed trains and they are a great cheap alternative to flying. Of course you are going to have to fly for international travel, but imagine if Canada and the USA were connected by high speed rail! Awesome I say.
