Find local resorts or spas, that will get you started. Some of the best vacations are not the most expensive ones. You can find a spot that’s not too far away that’s known for its scenery. Get a hotel there and have fun for your week. If you’re into Camping, Wolly Hollow and Mt. Pinnacle are some good places in AR. In Wyoming, there are several cheap, and yet really good skiing slopes. They run about $100 apiece for your ski lift, boots, skis, and everything else you would need, instead of several hundred dollars apiece for other skiing resorts.

Not sure where you live but try to find some interesting cities in states nearby. Some interesting ones are San Antonio or Austin, Texas, Philadelphia, San Diego, Vegas, New Orleans, Boston, DC, NY.

A couple of months ago I just drove around Victoria for a week following the Country Cup circuit (i’m talking racehorses). I went by myself, spent three nights in my van (about $15 a night for an unpowered caravan site).I spent another three nights in on site vans (average $55 a night) and on the last night I lashed out and stayed in a motel for $86.
I travelled just over 2500 kms and paid about $280 on diesel.
That amounts to $576 so far and after allowing for a couple of boat trips I went on,some pokie coin,a beer or three, food and of course a little bit of punting money I came in below the $1000.
It was cheap but enjoyable and I struck more than one wag amongst the country folk that I ran into along the way.
Horses may not be your scene but just pick something you enjoy
